Mediterranean scrub, nuragic sites, wine, horses at dawn, Sardinian sweets, jeeps, a shepherd’s lunch and the sea: seven guided experiences between Orosei, the Gulf and Ogliastra.
Orosei lies in the northern part of the gulf that takes its name, near the mouth of the Cedrino river. Its territory includes the coast of Marina di Orosei and the Biderosa Oasis, a protected natural area of Mediterranean scrub, pine forest and small white-sand coves, where you walk and swim in an environment that has stayed intact. Inland, the Su Barone nature reserve and the Gulunie nuraghe, at Osalla, tell the story of the nuragic civilisation. On the coast, the Marina di Orosei beach is ridden on horseback as the sun rises. In town you can also knead the traditional sweets, such as seadas and sweet ravioli. From the sea, the Gulf can also be explored with mask and snorkel, on a morning of snorkelling departing from Cala Gonone.

A guided hike in the Biderosa Oasis, one of the most striking natural areas in Sardinia. With the guide you walk about 9 km through fragrant Mediterranean scrub, old cork oaks and centuries-old junipers, up to the viewpoints over the Orosei coast. Along the way there is time to stop on one of the oasis beaches for a swim in turquoise water, and the day ends with a homemade ice cream. The outing takes about 7 hours, about 3 of them on foot, in a small group.
A guided tour of about 3 hours that combines nature, archaeology and wine. It starts in Orosei with the Su Barone nature reserve and the Gulunie nuraghe, at Osalla, a witness of the civilisation that made Sardinia famous. Then you reach a local winery, where you learn the secrets of Cannonau and taste local wines, with stories and curiosities from the guide. Small group, up to 8 people, travelling by minivan or 4x4 depending on availability.
At dawn, when the Marina di Orosei beach is still almost empty, you climb into the saddle for a two-hour ride that suits beginners too. The first hour runs over the sand and along the dunes while the sun colours the sky; then the route enters the Mediterranean scrub, on dirt tracks, up to a viewpoint over the Gulf of Orosei. At the end there is breakfast, with a voucher to use at a local café. If the weather does not allow it the tour may be cancelled, with a guaranteed refund.
A hands-on workshop of about three hours to learn how to make traditional Sardinian sweets with simple local ingredients. You prepare the dough, roll it out by hand with a rolling pin or with the machine and close it with moulds and tools, to make seadas, sweet ravioli and other artisan specialities. At the end you taste what you made, with a glass of wine or a spritz and water. Small group, up to 8 people, led by local experts.
A morning at sea between cliffs and clear water, suitable for families and beginners. You meet at 8:30 in Cala Gonone for a short briefing, and set off around 8:45. There are two snorkelling sessions at two different spots in the Gulf of Orosei, chosen according to sea conditions and the quality of the seabed, with the guide showing you the typical marine life of the Mediterranean. The return is planned around 12:30. Small group, up to 4 people.
A private off-road tour of about 4 hours, just for your group (up to 8 people). It starts from Piazza del Popolo in Orosei and follows a route between sea and countryside to the Su Barone nature area: a golden beach, the pine wood and the Su Petrosu-Avallè lagoon, home to grey herons, little egrets, coots and cormorants and, at certain times of year, ducks and flamingos. Next comes a stop at the Gulunie nuraghe at Osalla, among the best preserved in the area and one of the few near the sea, with a view over the mouth of the Cedrino and the gulf. The last stop is a vineyard in the Orosei countryside: a walk among the rows, a tasting and the producers’ story of Cannonau. Then you head back.
A full day off-road to discover Ogliastra, one of the world’s Blue Zones, where people live long lives. You set off at 8 from Orosei, with pick-up also in Galtellì and Dorgali, along the scenic SS 125, which looks out over the island’s wildest mountains and valleys, including the Gorropu canyon. In summer there is a stop for a swim at Santa Maria Navarrese or Pedra Longa; in cooler months you visit more places of historical and cultural interest instead. Midday brings lunch in a sheepfold in the hills above Baunei, a traditional multi-course meal prepared by the shepherd. Then you return to Dorgali or Orosei. Small group, up to 6 people.

A day in the Supramonte of Oliena: the Lanaitho valley, the Su Gologone spring and nuragic sites, in a small group.
A private day by Land Rover between Su Gologone and the Lanaitho valley, then on foot to the nuragic village of Tiscali.
This is the classic trail out of Cala Gonone: it follows the coast southwards, always above the sea, to the great beach of Cala Luna.
