Caves, gorges and mountains a short way from Cala Gonone: the Dorgali area hides an underground world waiting to be explored.
Dorgali lies between the Supramonte and the sea, and its territory includes Cala Gonone, the Gorropu gorge and many of the finest caves in Sardinia. It is a village of craftsmen, vineyards and limestone carved by water, and the starting point for walks, off-road trips and underground outings.

From Cala Gonone you ride off-road up to Dorgali, then a short walk leads to the cave entrances. With the guide you explore three caves in the Dorgali area: Sos Jocos, Cumbida Prantas and Grotta Niedda. You walk and crawl in the dark, with the equipment provided, among rock formations and narrow passages. It is an outing of about 4 hours, in a small group with one guide.
A day off-road in the Supramonte of Dorgali and Baunei, the stretch of mountains facing the Gulf of Orosei, between the Barbagia and the Ogliastra. The jeep route is about 60 km there and back and alternates with three short treks of 1.5 km each, leading to a nuragic village, ancient cuiles (shepherds’ huts), a natural monument and a primeval forest. Along the way you may spot golden eagles, griffon vultures, falcons, wild boar and mouflon. There is a tasting of cured meats and cheeses, Sardinian bread, vegetables, fruit and sweets. The group is larger than on other outings: up to 24 people.
You walk about 6 km through the Suttaterra woods, in the Supramonte of Dorgali, in the shade of centuries-old holm oaks, with a few donkeys that carry the bags and, if they feel like it, the children too. After a jeep transfer to the start of the trail, the route passes a cave tucked away among rocks and vegetation and reaches Punta su Nuraghe, a viewpoint over the Gulf of Orosei. On the way back you stop at an old shepherd’s hut for a lunch of local products. The path is mostly shaded and works in every season. Small group with one guide.
A jeep takes you to the start of the trail, inland, and from there you walk along the Codula Ilune, a limestone canyon among Mediterranean scrub and viewpoints over the sea, all the way to Cala Luna. The beach has pale, coarse sand, clear water and caves carved into the rock where you can shelter from the sun. It is a route away from the crowds, graded EE (for experienced hikers) and demanding: the details list 3-4 hours of walking, with altitudes between 4 and 351 metres. The group is up to 13 people, with an environmental hiking guide.

A day in the Supramonte of Oliena: the Lanaitho valley, the Su Gologone spring and nuragic sites, in a small group.
A private day by Land Rover between Su Gologone and the Lanaitho valley, then on foot to the nuragic village of Tiscali.
This is the classic trail out of Cala Gonone: it follows the coast southwards, always above the sea, to the great beach of Cala Luna.
